With our services for public-sector boilers and HVAC, we provide value for money where it’s needed, from council offices to prisons.
Now more than ever, it’s important for the public sector to get value for money in service procurement. Over the past year in particular, we’ve seen some national contracts come under close public scrutiny. We pride ourselves on having local knowledge and building relationships on the ground. Our boiler and HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) engineers provide an end-to-end service that’s ideal for public-sector organisations. We’re going to take a look at three particular public-sector settings: prisons, local council offices, and social housing.
Public-sector boilers and HVAC that keep hot water and cool air flowing
Our work in public-sector property aims to deliver that value for money, with a focus on improving energy efficiency and cost-effectiveness. Whether it’s a council office building or a prison, many facilities weren’t designed with the comfort of residents in mind. But for a range of public-sector institutions, we’re on hand to keep the hot water flowing and the air at the required temperature. In design, installation, or commissioning projects, we’ve got the expertise to deliver. And we can provide emergency repairs and ongoing maintenance contracts too. In each of three areas, we’re going to look at one particular service which will make the difference to users of that building.
Design and installation of prison boilers
Some UK prisons are run directly by the public sector, others are outsourced in public-private partnerships. All prisons need reliable sources of hot water and HVAC. A lot of prison facilities are older and larger units, which will often have legacy systems that need updating. Newer-built prisons may need a system installed from scratch. Of course, one of the biggest challenges in custodial facilities is to keep disruption to a minimum. As well as accommodation blocks, facilities will often include full- and part-time education and production workshops, and a range of ancillary services. We have a track record of designing and installing systems in prisons. (We can provide a case study on our previous work at HM Prison Wealstun on request).
Local government buildings need control systems
In any office building, ensuring that people are working safely includes maintaining appropriate temperatures and adequate ventilation. Council offices are no different, so our focus here is often on control mechanisms. We present value for money by ensuring that hot water and HVAC in council-run facilities respond to the building’s needs. It might be best to fit timing controls or a compensator (which automatically regulates temperature on the basis of weather conditions). It’s also worth reviewing the broader management systems for utilities in council office buildings, to use smart metering and avoid separate regular meter readings for each utility.
Emergency repairs for social housing and housing associations
We work with housing associations and other social housing providers to meet their residents’ needs for emergency repairs. From a communal heating and hot water system to a series of individual units, we’re on hand to help in a crisis. But we can also work on planned preventive maintenance schedules. In particular, providers that deploy communal heating systems can benefit from our expertise with energy efficiency. For large blocks of flats or district heating systems, we can work to make the heating and hot water systems in all properties as reliable as possible. This will have the added advantage of reducing tenants’ long-term energy usage. And as with all our public-sector boiler and HVAC services, we’ve got our eyes on efficiency and savings without compromising on quality.
